gSKIN Heat flux sensors

The gSKIN sensors from greenTEG measure heat flux thanks to the Seebeck effect. The sensitivity of this kind of sensors depends on the thermocouples used, their number, their quality and their architecture. The standard thermocouples are divided into two separate thermopiles: n-type and p-type semiconductors.

The gSKIN thermocouples are based on the BiTe (Bismuth Telluride) technology offering the best sensitivity. These thermocouples are integrated in a special patented architecture using a high-quality substrate in order to improve their efficiency.
In addition, this architecture allows to obtain very thin and robust sensors.

Measurement principle

Heat flux sensors generate a voltage signal proportional to the quantity of heat which flows through the sensors. The output voltage (in micro-Volt range) is directly proportional to the heat flux (in W/m²) depending on the sensor sensitivity given in uV/(W/m²).

As the output is in uV, it is imperative to boost the signal with an A/D converter to have an excellent resolution. The sensor accuracy will depend primarily on this parameter.
